Thank you Mr. Broderick for putting this together and teaching us all how to play! Truman Thunderbirds are AMAZING READERS! Keep up the great work and read, read, read every single night. Don't forget to count up all of your reading minutes and turn them in to your teacher. Mrs. Hofer has been adding all of your reading minutes to our giant gumball and celebrating with each class each month.
Our goal is to reach 1,000,000 minutes before the end of the school year and we are nearing the end of the year. Mrs. Shields and Mrs. Hofer will be meeting with every 1st - 6th grade class during the week of May 8th to teach every child how to log-in to Overdrive (online library) and find books to read. Our hope is that the students will use Overdrive to continue to read at home over the summer. Right now we have read 880,212 minutes as a school! Well done! Keep reading and counting every minute of it. Turn your minutes in to your teacher and make sure the minutes are added to the school gumball machine in the library.

Remember to record ALL of the reading minutes you do at home and turn them in to your teacher. Then, turn in all the reading minutes for your class to Mrs. Hofer at your last library time of the month so we can count them toward reaching our million minutes of reading by the end of the year. Don't forget to read over winter break and keep track of all of those minutes too! Not only will reading over winter break help you improve your reading and vocabulary skills, it will help prepare you for DIBELS benchmark testing in January. We will also add your December reading minutes to the board in January. READ, READ, READ and COUNT EVERY MINUTE! Here's the GIANT gumball machine that is now in our library! Each class will bring their total class minutes to their last library time each month. Mrs. Hofer will write the total class reading minutes on a gumball and add it to our school display. Our school goal is to read 1,000,000 minutes by the end of the school year! We can do it! READ, READ, READ and KEEP TRACK OF ALL OF YOUR READING MINUTES! 1,000,000 reading minutes Read, read, read and count every minute of it! Attention Students and Families: Read at least 30 minutes a night and turn in all of your reading minutes to your teacher each week. The class goal is to read 12,000 minutes a month. The class minutes will be added to our school reading minutes to reach our school goal of 1,000,000 reading minutes by the end of the school year. When we reach our school goal of 1,000,000 reading minutes, we will have a fabulous and fun end of year party to celebrate. Talk to the student council members to tell them your ideas for a fabulous and fun end of year party to celebrate our reading success. Student council and Mr. Broderick will make the final decision and announce the end of year activity after winter break! |
